Although there are government incentives across the world for the increase in the numbers of electric vehicles there has still been a limited uptake by the general population. Electric vehicles still cost more than conventional petrol or diesel cars and hybrid cars because of the extra cost of their lithium-ion battery packs. But in the same way as prices of hybrids such as the Toyota Prius or the Honda Insight fell, the prices of electric models are reducing as these battery packs are produced on a bigger scale, and are expected to continue falling.
