Recycling accomplishes much more than just keeping valuable resources from ending up in our landfills. It also helps to reduce our overall environmental impact. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that most of what is in our waste stream is completely recyclable.

Unfortunately, an average American toss out nearly 1,200 pounds of garbage every year.

People often look at cork like it’s some kind of endangered species. Not only is it alive and well, but it is entirely renewable and aids the environment by promoting vegetation. It is just not being produced as much since the wine industry has turned to metal and plastic caps.

So, let’s keep it alive by buying and consuming those wines that still use cork, and then doing some fun things with those corks.

Sometimes recycling food packaging and bottles is just not enough and we get the urge to do something more for the environment. Going green has taken on a whole new meaning in recent years, and entire houses can now be built from recycled materials as can the furnishings inside them. Whilst the prospect of building a house might be a little too daunting for most of us there is always more we can be doing in the homes we already have.

Sadly, virtually everything has a shelf life, with some items expiring much sooner than expected. From that new fifty-two inch HDTV, to your once-dependable little car sitting in the driveway. Sometimes, items (especially electronics) are beyond repair; in this case, they should be properly disposed of or preferably, recycled. However, in some situations, an item may just need a replacement part costing a couple bucks. One class of items that poses the question of whether to repair or replace is that of appliances.
